Keeping an Eye on Your Eyes

Your eyes don't always give you clues about what might be going on with them, so having periodic eye exams can be a great way to monitor their health. Having a basic eye exam every so often is advisable for most adults. If your eyes are in great shape, that's wonderful, but if the exam turns up something, you'll be glad you checked instead of waiting for symptoms to appear. At DeNovo Eye in McKinney, TX, an optometrist on our optometry team can give you an eye exam so you can keep a close eye on your eyes.

An Eye Exam Doesn't Take Long at All Now

If you haven't had an eye exam in years, you'll be happy to know that the exams don't take a long time.

You might have some standard tests for colorblindness and glaucoma and then go in for the eye test with charts. An optometrist on our optometry team will have you read off letters, as you'd expect, and if you have a prescription, he may have you choose between images to find the clearer version. You may have eye tests for fatigue as well, which is common if you work a lot with screens, including both computers and phones.

If an optometrist on our team sees anything, he will discuss it with you and let you know about treatments. Some conditions require none because the conditions won't cause you a problem, but others may need monitoring or immediate action. If you have conditions that you've known about for a while, you can discuss options to finally take care of them, such as LASIK for better vision.

If you haven't worn glasses or contacts before and find that now you need to, an optometrist on our optometry team will test you to see what your prescription would be. If you want contacts, there may be additional evaluation to ensure you get the right type of contacts.

Help Treat Conditions before They Cause Damage

Some eye conditions, like glaucoma, might not present symptoms until permanent damage has already been done to the eye. To prevent this, come in for a routine eye exam so the conditions can be caught early and so you can avoid vision loss.
